Apple Tahini Green Smoothie
I have wanted to make this apple-tahini recipe for a long time, but as a baked oatmeal. I have been hoarding a couple tablespoons of tahini for a month just to make this, but every time I have the opportunity, I think about summonsing the hellfires of my oven, and I quickly change my mind. I never used to understand when people posted no-bake recipes and referred to “not wanting to turn on your oven,” but I get it now.
Here’s the perfect breakfast for summer mornings if you, like me, don’t have air conditioning.

Raspberry and Chocolate Tahini Oatmeal
Vibrant and fruity oatmeal topped with a fudgy scoop of tahini? Oh, yessss.
Mango Tahini Oatmeal
Mango. ?
I adore mango, especially when I can find a way to temper the sweetness a bit. What calms sweetness better than a swirl of tahini?
Tahini Swirl Brownie Baked Oatmeal
I probably shouldn’t be posting brownie recipes immediately after opening up a contest for brownie recipes. ? I couldn’t resist.
Is anyone else kind of obsessed with tahini? I can’t seem to get enough of it lately. I use it to make salad dressings, in smoothies, on oatmeal. All the tahini, all the time.

Apple Oatmeal with Chocolate Tahini and Coconut
Friends, I have two important hacks to show you today.
The first involves my never-ending search for apple perfection.
I have written before on the perfect way to cook apples in oatmeal to get a creamy porridge and not a chunky and disjointed one. Now, I have a new method.
At the end of the day, you can add your apple however you damn well please. However, here’s my new favorite: cut the apple into halves or quarters. GRATE at least half the apple (I grate three quarters), and dice the rest.* The grated apple works on two levels: 1) It is easier to digest for poor souls like me with incompetent intestines, and 2) It creates a smooth and consistently flavorful porridge. You could technically grate the entire fruit, but reserving some of the apple for dicing provides a bit of texture for extra pops of apple now and then.
*I use small apples, so I use the entire thing, but if you’re using a large apple, you may want to only use a portion of the apple and save the rest for later. Use your judgment.
Tahini Cookie Baked Oatmeal
So tahini has been a learning experience for me. My first taste was one of . . . bewilderment. I was taken aback by its bitterness and wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. I think I made some great recipes with the mocha poached pear and raspberries and chocolate and the apple and honey. But I still wasn’t sure how I felt about tahini in general.
This baked oatmeal gave me a new appreciation for tahini. Inspired by this recipe for tahini cookies, I made a baked oatmeal similar to my Peanut Butter Cookie Baked Oatmeal, but with tahini. Would you believe that I liked it just as much? (more…)
Mocha Poached Pear Oatmeal with Tahini
As most of my readers know. . .
Thus, many of my pear recipes are desperate, elaborate concoctions to attempt to make them palatable to me. Today’s strategy: poaching. In chocolate. Mocha chocolate, to be exact.
And then dousing it all in tahini.

Spiced Apple Oatmeal with Tahini & Honey
I’ll start with my usual disclosure for the vegan police: yep, honey. As I always say, I’m “one of those vegans”–go ahead and berate me in the comments. I’ve received more hate from YouTube trolls and sixth graders misbehaving in the hallway than you can imagine. I can most certainly handle your lambasting. I briefly discuss my views on honey on my Plant Proud! page.
Alright, good. We’re past that. Moving on.
So my first attempt at tahini was not the groundbreaking experience I had hoped for. As it turns out, tahini is not peanut butter. It is not rich like peanut butter. It is not warm and cozy like peanut butter. It is neither sweet nor salty like peanut butter. In fact, it’s pretty darn bitter. It’s kind of like creamy sesame oil with a bitter aftertaste.
(I’ve totally convinced you to try it, right?) (more…)
Raspberry Oatmeal with Tahini & Dark Chocolate Chunks
My first tahini experience! Ta-da!
For years, I’ve been buying the “tahini sauce” from Trader Joe’s and using it for salad dressing. It is not the same as plain ol’ tahini. Tahini sauce contains add-ins like lemon juice and garlic. In fact, it kind of tastes like hummus, without the chickpeas! Thus, when I observed multiple #oatmealartist posts on Instagram include tahini, I was appalled. “YOU ARE TOPPING YOUR FRUITY OATMEAL WITH GARLICKY TAHINI?! (more…)
Savory Greek Oatmeal
[This post was updated on Jan. 3, 2016.]
I’ve said it once (or twice) and I’ll say it again: I’ll take my oats sweet, thank you. Still, I’m eager to keep experimenting with savory oatmeal, and I’m especially eager to bring you new, exciting recipes!
As much as I would love to say Greek food is my favorite, I have to admit that my definition of Greek food is embarrassingly shallow. I love Greek salad, and basically any menu item that claims to be “Greek” due to the inclusion of black olives and feta. I even used to think falafel was Greek, but I’ve since learned better (ahem, it’s Middle Eastern. whatever . . .). (more…)
