While I completely support eating any oatmeal at any time of the year (Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal in July? Yep, I’ve done it), it can be satisfying to enjoy seasonal recipes, especially during the holidays.
For me, and I’m assuming many other people, holidays like Christmas become a weekend (or week-long!) event. Here are ten recipes to start every morning with a festive bowl of oats.
Gingerbread Steel-Cut Oatmeal
Not only is this sweetened by bananas, but it makes more than a single serving. Hizzah!
Snickerdoodle Baked Oatmeal
My favorite cookie in oatmeal form. I don’t know what it is about snickerdoodles, but that cinnamon goodness beats a plain ol’ sugar cookie any day.
Mexican Hot Chocolate Oatmeal
Chocolate and spice and everything nice. What says “Winter Break” more than hot chocolate?
Peppermint Brownie Baked Oatmeal
I don’t know why peppermint = Christmas, but I’m not complaining.
Sweet Potato Gingerbread Oatmeal
For a more subtle approach to gingerbread. The sweet potato in this recipe adds creaminess while neutralizing those intense gingerbread spices!
Eggnog Oatmeal (with Apple-Cranberry-Chestnut Compote)
Eggnog . . . cranberries . . . chestnuts . . . It’s Christmas in a bowl.
Cranberry Brownie Baked Oatmeal
When you bake cranberries, they burst, letting their fruity juices seep into the rest of the oatmeal. Enjoy it brownie-style!
Peanut Butter Blossom Baked Oatmeal
My mom used to make these cookies every Christmas. Something says Christmas to me more than a cushion of a peanut butter cookie with a chocolate Kiss on top.
White Chocolate Cranberry Baked Oatmeal
Gingerbread Cream Cheese Baked Oatmeal
You can never have too much gingerbread. For an indulgent but still totally nutritious holiday breakfast, add some cream cheese (I use Tofutti!) to cozy, warm gingerbread baked oatmeal.
